Directed by Lin Snider and presented by the Iona College Players, Grease was enjoyed by both cast and audience members. With shows postponed and delayed due to inclement weather, auditorium seats were filled with many anxious spectators including students, faculty, family and friends as they gathered to see the show.
Theatrical roles went into play even before the show started. Miss Lynch, one of the teachers at Rydell High School, played by Lauren Zanfardino, reminded the audience of some general behavioral rules. A clever addition, Miss Lynch’s direct encounter with the audience made them feel as if they were a part of the show.
The cast, entering from the back of the auditorium, sang as they walked down the aisle. In the first act, favorites like "Summer Nights,” "Greased Lightnin,’” "Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” and "We Go Together” were performed. The cast left the stage in the same way they entered the—singing down the aisle.
The ten-minute intermission gave the audience time to stretch, discuss the show with other guests, and get refreshments sold outside the auditorium. The cast members were able to complete any needed costume and set-up changes before the second half of the show.
Act two began with "Shakin’ at the High School Hop.” Chantal Gagnon, president of the Iona College Players, did a fine job playing Rizzo and her rendition of "There Are Worse Things I Could Do” was sung very professionally. Likewise, Danny Zuko and co-star Victoria Moran’s outstanding acting skills were brought to life during the performance as they sang "You’re the One That I Want.”
The audience showed their appreciation for the fine performances of the dancers, singers, actors and music players as they smiled and clapped as the cast members took their bows.
